About

A Villa In the Heart of Hiriketiya Beach, Sri Lanka

This recently discovered bay is described by all who visit as ‘Paradise’. Hiriketiya bay is without a doubt the premier beach of South Sri Lanka. Away from the commercialized tourist zones, Hiriketiya bay feels like home away from home. Nearby undiscovered bays make the far south coast a hidden gem of swimming, walking and biking trails. Prevailing easterly or westerly winds are kept away by the horse-shoe shape of the bay, making swimming and surfing conditions safe all year round.

It is a fishing port & one of the island’s main starting points to watch whales & dolphins. The Wewurukannala Vihara is one of the most amazing Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka.

RESTAURANTS

The Serene Villa is surrounded by a choice of restaurants. The Salt House restaurant offers all of the good things you might miss from home…Chocolate Brownie, Superfood Smoothies, Espresso, Burgers, Salads, Seafood, Gelato. You will find a fusion of amazing food and drinks, traditional curries and western style dishes that will melt your taste buds.

SURFING

Hiriketiya Bay is unique in shape & topography making surf available approximately ten months of the year. During peak holiday seasons from Dec-Feb smaller swells from the west create a perfect beginners beach break wave & the occasional ride on the left point break. During shoulder season Aug-Dec the waves are at their best after a slight drop in midyear swell size creating a clean beach & left point break. During the middle of the year, larger southerly swells create some fun yet challenging waves right across the bay.

YOGA

Our sister house Salt hosts daily classes in varying styles for your daily dose of Yoga. We can offer innovative workshops by appointment. Feel free to join us no matter if a beginner or experienced. The elevated open air jungle view Shala accommodates twenty students and lifts you into the treetops of the surrounding jungle. Experience the bliss of Yoga in this beautiful environment.

Arts & Culture

The culture of Sri Lanka mixes modern elements with traditional aspects and is known for its regional diversity. The history of colonial occupation has left a mark on Sri Lanka’s identity, as Portuguese, Dutch, and British elements mixed with various traditional facets. The Sri Lankan culture is strongly connected to its rich Buddhist heritages as well as kingdoms that left astonishing landmarks across the country.

Serene Villa will probably be nice when it’s finished. As of December, 2018 it is still a construction zone. Until it’s done, I would choose to stay at Pepper or Salt. Those places are closer to the beach and include... read more

Explore Hiriketiya

Fringed by tropical forest and lapped by surging surf, this tiny horseshoe-shaped cove is fast becoming one of Sri Lanka’s coolest beaches. For now, it’s still somewhat off the radar and draws an in-the-know crowd of independent travellers and ex-pats. Hiriketiya’s appeal is easy to understand: it’s tucked well away from the highway traffic that curses many southern Sri Lankan beaches…
